1. Troubleshooting

My Web browser did not launch after installation

If your Web browser did not automatically open after you installed the AvantGo Client software, you can continue the sign up process manually. To continue, please launch your browser and go to the following location: AvantGo Install.

The Installer Detected an Older Version Of the Client Software

If you receive a message indicating you have previously installed a newer version of the desktop software, or you receive a message indicating that you are trying to install an older version of the desktop software, we suggest you return to the location of your previous install to download the latest version of the appropriate desktop software. This situation may occur when you are installing a second version of the software or when you are installing a new device.

Note: If you are using more than one computer to sync your handheld device, you must upgrade each computer to the latest version of AvantGo software.

2. System Requirements

The absence of a particular device from this list does not mean that it is incompatible with AvantGo; it simply means that the device has not been tested.

Software: Palm Hotsync Manager 2.0 (or later)

3. Firewalls

If you're using AvantGo at your place of business and your company accesses the Internet through a firewall or a proxy server, you may need to set up proxy server information.

A proxy server is a computer on your company's local network. All requests to access the Internet are relayed through this server. Because AvantGo accesses the Internet, you must set up access through your company's proxy server if your company uses one.

During the setup process, you configure AvantGo to use your proxy server. AvantGo Connect (tm) looks at how your desktop browser is configured and configures itself the same way. If your browser is incorrect or AvantGo Connect (tm) is unable to find the information, you may have to configure this manually.

To manually configure the AvantGo Connect (tm) connection setup:

1. Select Start | Settings | Control Panel | AvantGo Connect.

Enter the names of the servers that do not use proxies (exceptions to the HTTP and SOCKS settings) in the Exceptions field. Use a semicolon to separate the addresses of the servers. For example, you may be required to sync via a proxy at work, but from home you may enable a public server on the Web that does not require the use of the proxy server. Some servers may exist inside a firewall and do not require access to the Internet via a proxy server. Click OK.

2. Click the Connection tab. The proxy settings appear.

3. Click Change. The Advanced Connection Settings dialog appears.

4. Enter the necessary information in the Servers box. Your system administrator has all the necessary information.

5. If your proxy server uses the HTTP protocol, enter information in the HTTP Address and Port fields. Do not use http in the Address field. The address is a unique computer location on the Internet expressed as a unique string of numbers or as its associated domain name (e.g., 206.132.58.33 or avantgo.com). When you enter information in the Port field, the Use HTTP authentication field is enabled.

6. Check the Use HTTP authentication box to enable user name and password protection

7. If you enable Use HTTP authentication, enter your user name and password for the server you entered in the Address field. Passwords are often case sensitive and must exactly match what you provided the server. Enter the new or existing password you provided to the server in the New password field.

8. If your proxy uses a secure protocol, enter information in the Secure and Port fields.

10. Click OK.
